VERU NARULA

Some artists avoid new technologies. Others give themselves over to media entirely different from the traditional. Still others manage an ambidextrous handling of seemingly contradictory practices, creating viable artworks in entirely unrelated formats. Very few, however, elect to combine disparate methods and materials at their disposal into self-contained works. Veru Narula is one of these brave few.

Nerula has not chosen to combine disparate disciplines just to show off a technical talent for aesthetic miscegenation. He has a higher purpose, a more urgent message to communicate to a world that might better appreciate the message when it offers more than mere spectacle. By assuming the rhetoric of science fiction literature and film, Nerula shares in the conjuration of cultural and social speculation. When painted images combine with video, when sculpture is powered by digital techniques, a freedom of medium drives the artist’s message and the audience’s minds.

Nerula’s engineer background certainly helps him realize the material structures he wants to activate and convey. But his vision is not that of a technocrat. Rather, he has turned to art – to new hybrid forms of art – to transcend the mundanities of the material world. It’s a kind of techno-surrealist fantasy that does not negate the “real” world so much as it advocates the imagination as the architect of our reality. Veru Nerula is an artist because that is the most powerful kind of visionary.

ACCA is proud to announce its official representation of Veru Narula, a third-generation oil painter and engineer whose work bridges the gap between traditional media and contemporary technology.

By ACCA

ACCA Journal, a leading voice in art, culture, fashion, and media, celebrates the intersections of creativity and community that define our era. With national and international distribution.

The announcement coincides with the premiere of Narula’s Ocean of Abundance Collection during FRIEZE LA 2026, featuring a series of paintings and sculptures that explore the intersections of marine physics and global consciousness.

The Ocean of Abundance Collection is described as a rare, underwater art retreat that meticulously studies the effects of light, water, and the ocean floor. Utilizing Augmented Reality (AR) 3D waves, the collection creates an immersive experience for the viewer. Narula’s technical background as an engineer informs his study of light, echoing the physics of Total Internal Reflection (TIR)—a phenomenon where ray of light arriving at a boundary (such as water to air) are completely reflected back, often seen in the mirror-like surfaces of aquariums or swimming pools.

A centerpiece of the announcement is the “Ocean of Abundance: 90210” public sculpture proposal. This large-scale work renders Beverly Hills’ iconic ZIP code as freestanding sculptural forms finished with a continuous ocean horizon motif. The project aims to reframe “90210” not as a symbol of exclusivity or luxury, but as a landmark for shared abundance, aspiration, and global cultural exchange. Proposed for prominent sites including the Beverly Hills Civic Center Plaza and the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, the sculpture invites viewers to experience “depth not as excess, but as equilibrium.” The project is currently seeking opportunities with foundations, museums, non-profits, and equity funding partners to bring this vision to life.

Technological Innovation and Philosophical Depth Narula is recognized for his Video Embedded Oil Paintings, which juxtapose digital narratives directly within traditional oil media to create multi-layered stories.

Narula holds degrees in engineering and business from Columbia University and is a third-generation oil painter. His interdisciplinary practice bridges fine art, physics, and emerging media, integrating traditional oil technique with augmented reality technology.

This blend of technology and tradition serves a higher purpose: ““I paint to explore the power of hands, the shadows of the ego, and the beauty of the mind, in order to reveal the light of a universal soul.” says Narula. His practice focuses on shared symbols and a global visual language, a mission that has extended as far as his recent project involving art on the Moon.

Commitment to Climate Activism In alignment with the collection's themes, a percentage of proceeds from the Ocean of Abundance Collection will be donated to support climate activism, ensuring that the marine environments inspiring Narula's work are protected for future generations.

About Veru Narula a contemporary artist known for diverse series including Global Consciousness Awakens, which explores 21st-century political and social themes, and the Feminine Divine series, focused on women’s empowerment. His work is characterized by a "contemporary yet timeless aesthetic" that bridges the physical and spiritual.
