LOS ANGELES MAYOR KAREN BASS
CONGRATULATES
SIR BRETT-LIVINGSTONE STRONG
AS THE VISIONARY SCULPTOR
OF THE CITY OF ANGELS MONUMENT
In a landmark moment for the City of Angels, Mayor Karen Bass extended her heartfelt congratulations to Sir Brett-Livingstone Strong, the renowned Australian-born sculptor and visionary artist. Brett was sponsored into the United States by John Wayne in 1977, and has achieved many accomplishments, as well as the designer and sculptor of the City of Angels Monument. This towering tribute—a majestic angel standing taller than the Statue of Liberty—will hold aloft an illuminated star above the downtown skyline, symbolizing Los Angeles’ enduring spirit of creativity, freedom, and global influence.
The monument and the Landmark architectural Tower base structure plans are now in full development. Some of the completed sculptured sections of the monument are slated for exhibition during the LA Olympic Games in 2028. A year of profound significance for the city. It also marks the upcoming 250th anniversary of Los Angeles’ founding, the 100th anniversary of the LA Academy Awards, and the return of the Summer Olympic Games to LA. The 36 foot Angel head and the face section is modelled from Michelangelo's face of Mary in his masterpiece Pietà plus the face of LA icon Marylin Monroe and LA actress Saint Heart.
The Jackson-Strong Alliance was a creative partnership spanning 30 years between Michael Joseph Jackson and Sir Brett-Livingstone Strong.
As a beacon of inspiration, the City of Angels Monument will celebrate these milestones and will be completed for the historic Gala unveiling ceremony on September 04, 2031.
This date marks 250 years since September 4th, in 1781, the official founding of Los Angeles. This monumental structure costing an estimated $2.4b is totally funded through the City of Angels Monument Foundation and a few of LA's Patrons of the Arts, at no cost to the City of Los Angeles. It will stand majestically reinforcing Los Angeles’ ascendance as the world’s pre-eminent capital of entertainment.
Sir Brett-Livingstone Strong, celebrated for his historic monumental sculptures—including works honoring the U.S. Constitution, the U.S Presidency, and iconic figures such as John Lennon and collaborations with Michael Jackson—bring unparalleled expertise to this project. His vision for the monument, long championed through the City of Angels Monument Foundation, envisions a landmark that joins global icons like the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower, serving as a powerful emblem of peace, love, and creative freedom while supporting initiatives for homeless mothers and children.
The significance of this monument to Los Angeles cannot be overstated. As the city evolves into the definitive global hub for entertainment and storytelling, major developments underscore this transformation. The forthcoming Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, founded by George Lucas and set to open in 2026, will showcase unparalleled collections of visual storytelling—from cinematic masterpieces to comic art—further cementing LA’s role as the creative epicenter. Combined with the city’s world-class film studios, thriving music scene, television production, gaming innovation, and cultural institutions, Los Angeles is no longer just the historic home of Hollywood; it is the dynamic, forward-looking capital where global narratives are born and shared.
Honoring the U.S. Presidency Bicentennial, this monument and the U.S. Constitution monument shown below was dedicated by President Ronald Reagan in 1987. Both designed and sculpted by Sir Brett-Livingstone Strong.
This monument will stand as a shining testament to what makes Los Angeles extraordinary—our boundless imagination, our diversity, and our ability to inspire the world. Sir Brett-Livingstone Strong’s artistry captures the essence of our city: an inspiring Angel uplifting a star that lights the way for dreamers everywhere.
As we approach 2028, this landmark will welcome visitors from across the globe to the Olympics, the Oscars Centennial, and our 250th Birthday, reminding us all that Los Angeles is where stories come to life and dreams take flight.

Long time friends and partners, Sir Brett-Livingstone Strong and Michael Joseph Jackson
The Michael Joseph Jackson Memorial Monument
The top half of the 12 foot tall original statue in clay and plaster during its creation; to be cast into bronze by sculptor Brett-Livingstone Strong for Mrs. Katherine Jackson and Michael's children.
The Michael Joseph Jackson Memorial Monument stems from a visionary collaboration between Michael Jackson and Sir Brett-Livingstone Strong via their Jackson-Strong Alliance (JSA), formed in the 1980’s to advance philanthropy through fine art.
Jackson co-designed the monumental bronze statue in the early 1990s, inspired by European monuments like London’s Prince Albert Memorial.
It was meant as the core of a cathedral-like space for celebrating life: a wedding chapel with his music archive, art museum, performances, and exhibits, with proceeds funding charities and Michael’s public sculptures as well as his Neverland and Wonderland projects
Approved by Jackson in writing before his 2009 death, the project continued with Katherine Jackson’s endorsement, dedicating it to her, Michael’s children (Prince, Paris, Bigi), and the family.
The original clay model (top half shown in creation) is to be cast in metal, funded by JSA art sales from Michael’s masterpiece originals and Sir Brett’s assets.
Recent 2025 updates from Instagram and JSA channels confirm securing the LA site.
For foundations, museums, equity firms, and collectors: Opportunities include sponsorship, acquiring JSA artworks/prints, or partnering on the memorial complex (via www.jacksonstrongalliance.shop and www.blsart.com) supports this cultural landmark and associated arts philanthropy.

This historic 59-year-old work of art, titled “The 1967 Tribute to Marilyn in Red,” was created in 1967 by a young Brett-Livingstone Strong. Executed in acrylic and oil on canvas, the portrait was first exhibited in Sydney in 1968. That early exhibition helped lead to Strong being commissioned to create the official Royal Opening painting to celebrate the opening of the Sydney Opera House in 1973, attended by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Sydney, Australia.
This Marilyn portrait, together with its original turquoise companion, later formed part of a larger collection of the artist’s sculptures and paintings sponsored by the Australian Arts Council. The sponsorship followed a prestigious art award granted to Strong in 1976, supporting a world-traveling exhibition intended to promote both the artist and Australian contemporary art. During the U.S. exhibitions in San Francisco and Beverly Hills in 1977, Strong was approached by Gianni Versace and his associates, including Andy Warhol, who praised his talent and artistry. They offered to acquire the Marilyn original; however, because it was part of a traveling exhibition, it was not available. A friendship began from that time on with Gianni and Andy.
By the late 1970s, Strong had gained public notoriety in the United States after carving a stone contemporary portrait of John Wayne. Wayne sponsored Strong’s U.S. green card and endorsed him to carve his portrait from a large 100-ton Malibu boulder in 1978.
Andy Warhol and Sir Brett-Livingstone Strong became friends in the 70s as Andy was inspired by Brett's portrait of Marilyn Monroe. Shown here, Andy sketching a portrait as a gift to Brett in the early 1980s.
Following this, the Estate of Marilyn Monroe endorsed the original Marilyn portrait for a fine-art 350 limited edition that incorporated Monroe’s handprints and shoeprints from the forecourt of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood into the composition, to be exhibited and sold in support of Marilyn’s history and memorabilia.
This Marilyn Estate limited edition sold out in the early 1980s, and the Collector’s full-scale canvas 48 x 39 inches limited edition of 100 available in five unique color combinations, celebrating the 100th birthday of Marilyn Monroe on June 1st, 2026 is now available to celebrate her legacy. Sir Brett’s sale of his historic and valuable original is an exceptional, certified, historic contemporary work of art that is hereby briefly available for acquisition.Sir Brett-Livingstone Strong's Tribute to Marilyn Monroe is more than a portrait it is a homage to one of the most iconic women of the 20th century created in 1967.
