DEBORAH McNULTY (American, born 1952)
Deborah McNulty was raised in Detroit MI, where as a child she enjoyed writing plays, teaching dance and making the costumes for the neighborhood kids. She studied at the Detroit Society of Arts and the University of Minnesota.
Deborah spent decades traveling around the world as an International Flight Attendant, while raising two sons for twenty three years of that time. Her flights overseas have had a great influence on the work she produces. Most of her layovers have been spent in Asia, as well as Sydney and Europe. Asia is heavily reflected in her latest work. Deborah also did restoration and rehab on a number of Victorian era homes, something she took great pleasure and applied strict devotion to detail in. While completely enjoy that work, it was labor intensive. So, Deborah decided to forgo manual labor and instead use her mind, so she developed a patent and is working on two more! Deborah’s quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor honed in many a Boeing isle and galley over the years, gives her writing a unique edge and comic understanding of the human psyche. She has recently co-written two scripts, one of which is being filmed as of this writing.
Recently, having so much time at home during the pandemic, Deborah has produced an immense amount of art. Some is a big departure from how she was artistically trained, but does incorporate many of the details she has learned along the way. There is a spirituality to Deborah’s intention and an easy and pretty flow, it is quite gorgeous to look at. The work she is doing with the live vines, is unique, and she is becoming delightfully obsessed with the new style. She applies many other mediums and plays with color, shine, nature and industry. To her the vines are much more than a look, they are a homage to the beauty and perfection of nature, and our delicate balance on the planet. Fortunately, Deborah has a seemingly endless amount of energy!
