Gauging how the looming Presidential election in November will impact the 21st Annual Art Basel – Miami sees the prevailing mood rife with unease, uncertainty, and a modicum of hope.  With 10’s of thousands descending on Florida’s balmy shores, by train, plane and in more Gulfstreams than tarmacs to land them;  Art Basel – Miami and a constellation of art-centric gatherings will commence days after the  polls close.  Ranked  as the premier contemporary  Art occasion in the Americas, the global mash-up will embrace serious collectors, gallerists, curators, entrepreneurs, artisans and the  art-curious.  The ubiquitous ‘influencers’ and glitterati are posed for their selfies.  One thing is certain Art Fest attendees are already invigorated by this portentous election.Since Art Basel-Miami’s inception in 2002, the convergence has historically been curated to cater to the top ‘ten percenters’.  Not only do they  steer the course in the Art World but the world at large.  Channeling a ‘butterfly effect’ that rests on the notion the world is deeply interconnected; the  occasion of Art Week Miami will undoubtedly serve as a litmus test determining how the election results will influence the future of art, artists, and their entourages. Will this year’s iteration serve as a ‘Shake Down’ where freshly minted discretionary funds (derived from tax cuts and deregulation for the wealthy) stimulate robust investment in the artistic inventory on display?  Will trickle-down economics provide upward mobility for struggling artistes and the journeymen and women servicing the gazillion dollar Art Industry? An Industry, where the boundaries between Art, Fashion, Lifestyle Design, Multimedia Entertainment and Finance (fungible or otherwise) are becoming increasingly blurred.  Or is Art Basel-Miami 2024 harken a new beginning where an incumbent Vice President and her feisty crew aim to re-tilt the scales of social justice to on the side of fair play, sharing more, consuming less as precursor to a global creative renaissance? With a current climate fraught with uncertainty, encroaching tyranny and extreme disparity, Art Basel and its associated Fairs “serve up a groundswell of hope” to paraphrase Paul Hawkins in his prophetic tome ‘Blessed Unrest’.  Irrespective of the citizen’s P.O.V one thing is beyond dispute,  Art Basel and Miami Art WeekS™ thrive in a spirited celebration of ingenuity, resourcefulness, and creativity as an exuberant riot of free expression. The 21st annual Art Basel Miami Beach, from December 6-8 will once again anchor the satellite pavilions.  Art Miami , Untitled Art, Red Dot Fair founded by New York and Los Angeles Gallerist George Billis, AfriKin Art Fair and ArtBasil.com among them.  A complement of spontaneous street art performances and multi-sensory destinations like Temple House, Superblue Miami metaverse – and boundless , immersive experiences are already in full-tilt, pre-production. South Florida as an epicenter for Art and Cultural expression continues to evolve  as a ‘City of the Future’. What was once a rum-soaked, Coppertoned tropical getaway and a mere brush stroke on art aficionados annual calendar has become the singular must-attend Art Activation in the Western Hemisphere. The balmy Winter breezes and ‘that light!’ is available to all free of charge. The occasion puts the event neck and neck with Frieze London & Los Angeles – Art Dubai – The Armory NYC- the Emerging European Fine Art Foundation (TEFAF), Arco Marid, La Biennale in Paris & Venice and the emerging  Investec Cape Town Art Fair ‘allegedly the largest art fair in Africa’.
